Create a Social Selling Content Calendar - Social Selling Daily Tip #013

Audio Transcript:

Here’s your social selling tip of the day for February 17, 2020. I’m Greg Hyer of Linking into Sales.

It’s Friday and you’re about to get some homework. Don’t worry, this won’t take up much of your weekend.

Are you done groaning?

Your marketing department most likely has some sort of content calendar they use for their content marketing strategy. This can include their social media posting schedule, blog publishing schedule, video release schedule, case study schedule and more. Typically, the communications marketing team will work with the product marketing team to coordinate schedules and make sure that product updates and new releases are on the calendar and planned.

Having a similar calendar for your social selling activities would be a good idea too. This content calendar should include similar updates from the marketing team but if you go back to Social Selling Daily Tip #002 where I shared the 70 / 20 / 10 Content Curation Rule, you’ll know exactly how much company content should be on your calendar. Just make sure your calendar is aligned with theirs.

So what should be on your calendar? For every article you post, you should create a key take away, one long for LinkedIn and Facebook, and one short for Twitter. This way, you have spent time crafting the right response and checking it for typos.

You should also note the stats from the content you have shared. Use the calendar to record these numbers. You’ll want to go back to see what was engaging and consider keeping it on your calendar for the next go around.

This weekend you can start building your calendar using a spreadsheet. Add the recommended columns and start filling in your slots. I recommend starting with one week. Once you’ve found the format that works for you, build out one month at a time.

In our upcoming course, “Social Selling Fundamentals,” we will be dedicating a module to content curation. In this module there will be a lesson on how to create a Social Selling Calendar as well as a template to get you started. Visit SocialSelling.training to learn more.

That does it for this social selling tip of the day. In addition to this daily tip, check out the Social Selling Podcast by Linking into Sales on iTunes, Google Play Music, Stitcher, YouTube and Tunein. You can even ask Alexa to play the Social Selling Podcast by Linking into Sales.
