Email is a Must - Social Selling Tip of the Day 028

Here’s your social selling tip of the day for May 17, 2020. I’m Greg Hyer of Linking into Sales.

Let’s keep in mind that social selling is a philosophy. To some in sales, it’s a religion. It would be naive to assume that social selling only happens on social networks like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook. These social networks wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for email. It’s the easiest way to get you to sign up to join a social network. It’s also the most effective way to get you to come back by sending you engagement notifications and other messages.

Every B2B decision maker has an email address. Every single one. Email is an identifier. We use it to associate data like interactions on websites, communications, contracts and more. You could and should say that email is a key data point you need to acquire as a social selling sales professional.

But how do you acquire an email address of a prospect when all you have is social network profiles? There are a number of extensions you can add to the desktop version of Google Chrome via the Chrome Web Store that can help you “figure out” an email address. The most popular is an extension called Rapportive. When you are in your gmail account, start an email and enter the different ways their email could be structured. Is it [email protected], or frank, fsmith, smithf, franks, etc. As you enter them, the Rapportive app will enable on the right side of your gmail inbox. If you enter the right email, it will display their LinkedIn profile. This is because the LinkedIn user has associated that email address with their LinkedIn profile.

What’s next? Send your email and await a response. If you use an email tracking tool be sure to check to see if they have opened the email.
